Aidu history
A little over a decade ago, a completely different life bustled here. Between 1974 and 2012, giant, house-sized walking excavators worked here, moving millions of tons of soil to extract Estonia's "brown gold".
However, when mining ended and the powerful water pumps were stopped, nature took over. The former giant trenches quickly filled with crystal-clear groundwater, creating a completely unique network of artificial canals in Estonia, spanning over 30 kilometers.
